HOW DO I...
OBTAIN A REPEAT PRESCRIPTION?

If the doctor has agreed that you should receive a drug on repeat prescription, this can only be requested in writing. Please use the form attached to your last repeat prescription.

If the doctor has not authorised the issuing of a repeat prescription, you will be asked to make an appointment to discuss this. Please do not telephone the reception to request repeat prescriptions. By requesting your repeat prescription in writing we are trying to eliminate any possibility of you being issued with the wrong prescription.
You may request a prescription by:

Post:

You may chose to post or hand-deliver your repeat prescription. If you wish your repeat prescription to be returned by post this can take at least seven working days. Please remember to enclose an SAE.

Special Prescriptions

* This is a request for any medication not on your repeat prescription. It will be considered within three normal working days and a prescription issued if appropriate.

* The following information is required:

a) Name, address, DOB, phone number
b) Name of drug(s), strength and how often it is taken
c) The name of the doctor prescribing the drug

* The receptionist highlights the drug and gives it to the doctor who normally sees the patient.
* The doctor checks the prescription and signs it. They may request that the patient makes an appointment if a change is appropriate.
* As the prescriptions form a small part of the doctor's administration and these requests require a more thorough check by the doctor, as they are not routine, that is why they take longer to process.
* On occasions when medication is required urgently we will do our best to organise this for you.

Hospital Prescriptions

If you attend out patients and medication is prescribed for you ar a change made, the hospital will give you sufficient amounts to last 7 days. This is an agreement reached with all departments in all hospitals (with the exception of Lauriston) throughout the area and all GPs. We will then continue your medication. This prescription can take up to three working days to process. Please ensure you hand in your hospital letter as soon as possible.

The request is given to the doctor who normally sees the patient. It is checked and signed or requests that the patient needs to be seen. They may also wish to add any medication to repeats.
